One of the first board games to blow up on Kickstarter is back for a new edition

Since 2012 CMON has raised more than $55.6M on the crowdfunding platform

Board game giant CMON is going back to the well with another Kickstarter campaign. This time it’s for a second edition of the wildly popular Zombicide, the game that originally put the company on the map in May 2012. With 12 days left in the campaign, it’s already successful to the tune of more than $1.5 million. Delivery is estimated by November 2020.

The full game will cost you $100, while an upgrade for an existing set runs $40. The campaign runs through Nov. 6.

Zombicide: 2nd Edition is the epitome of a beer-and-peanuts tactical miniatures game. Players jump into a map infested with the undead and have to shoot their way out. However, the game borrows mechanics from the MOBA genre of all things. While skill trees aren’t really as diverse as you’d see in League of Legends, players do upgrade their skills over the course each game. By the end they’re dramatically more powerful than they began.

This edition adds CMON’s now standard plastic side board, an innovation that has been shipping with the latest spin-off titles in the franchise. It serves as a dashboard for each player, tracking life, levels, and equipment. I had the pleasure of using it to play Zombicide: Black Plague and it’s a big improvement over the original’s skimpy plastic clips and cardboard character sheets.

This is the 39th (!!!) Kickstarter campaign for CMON. So far it’s raised over $55.6 million dollars on that platform. That makes it one of the crowdfunding giant’s biggest participants, and most profitable partners. Kickstarter gets 5 percent of each successful campaign, or roughly $2.78 million in all. We’ve embedded an updated list of all of CMON’s successful campaigns below.

It’s notable that the campaign itself does not include any statement on Kickstarter’s ongoing labor issues. The technology company’s management says it will refuse to voluntarily recognize its union. Polygon has reached out to CMON for comment.
