They're nicknamed the Gunners, so it's no surprise that Arsenal have a history of great marksmen.

From Herbert Chapman's famous side of the early 1930s all the way to the Arsene Wenger glory years, the North London giants boast some of the most beloved strikers in English football history. But who's the best-ever?

That's what we're here to find out with the help of Artificial Intelligence. Just like when tasked with finding the top 10 greatest forwards of all-time or how to build the perfect footballer, Chat GPT has ranked the top five strikers in Arsenal history.

Mirror Football is here to assess AI's verdict.

5. Robin van Persie

We'll start with a sour one. Having left to join Premier League rivals Manchester United in 2012, the former Arsenal hero was coming off the back of undoubtedly his best campaign in a Gunners shirt. Van Persie netted a superb 37 goals and Wenger's side were on the cusp of a serious title challenge, only for the Dutchman to jump ship once he made it 132 strikes across eight years in North London.

A bitterness remains following his £24million move to Old Trafford but Van Persie was entering the final year of his contract and claims that he wasn't even offered a new deal. Wenger would even block his attempts to return in 2015 once his spell with United came to an end.

4. Ted Drake

Heading back to before World War II now and Drake takes the number four spot thanks to his prolific output and significant trophy haul. In each of his five uninterrupted seasons in North London, the £6,500 signing finished as Arsenal's top scorer and ultimately ended his 11-year stay with a record of 136 goals from 182 games.

His goalscoring feats fired the Gunners to winning two First Division titles and an FA Cup to mark their first great era. Drake is also a famous name at Chelsea, having managed the Blues for nine years which saw them become champions of England for the first time ever in 1955.

3. Dennis Bergkamp

Perhaps ahead of his time thanks to his supreme technical ability and volume of creativity as a striker, the non-flying Dutchman (a nickname he picked up due to his phobia of air travel) would go down as the greatest ever in many clubs' rankings, but not Arsenal's. Bergkamp arrived from Inter in 1995 and would stay with the Gunners for more than a decade.

119 goals in 419 games might seem an underwhelming return for a player of his quality, but it wasn't all about hitting the back of the net for the three-time Premier League winner, as demonstrated by his tally of 98 assists. Bergkamp's flair, best exemplified by his unforgettable wonder-goal against Newcastle in 2002, made him a force to be reckoned with and he's the kind of player who we're yet to see play for Arsenal since his departure.

2. Ian Wright

Formerly Arsenal's all-time top goalscorer until No.1 on this list broke his record, Wright continues to be a fan favourite among the Gunners faithful to this day. Signed from fellow London side Crystal Palace for a club-record transfer fee worth £2.5m, the England international, like Bergkamp, began his time under George Graham and then excelled working with Wenger.

His 185 goals in 288 games, including 11 hat-tricks, will forever make him a key figure him in Arsenal folklore and fans are still able to enjoy him backing the Gunners to this day. There's still one better, though.

1. Thierry Henry

Who else but Henry? Mr Va Va Voom himself is considered not just Arsenal's greatest-ever striker but among the Premier League's finest, too. 228 goals and 103 assists in just 377 appearances speaks for itself, but it was often the manner of Henry's brilliance which was so impressive.

Cool, calm and clinical, the Frenchman has set the bar for future Gunners players to somehow try and reach. It could be a long time until he's dethroned.
