Hey everyone!
Our team(Lavisa MlanzeliVenus ChappieMxolisi Sibaya) recently participated in the African Bank#GEW2023 Hackathon! 🌍
So, our team dove headfirst into this challenge: "Bootstrap or develop a toolkit or platform that helps South African SMMEs transition to digital operations."And we cooked up something pretty cool!
🛠️ **Anti-Counterfeit Tech**
We decided to tackle a big issue faced by small and large manufacturers in South Africa - fake products. Imagine uploading all your product details like manufacture date, expiry date, and location, etc onto our system. The magic happens when this info is securely stamped onto the blockchain. We then cook up a QR code with a unique fingerprint (transaction hash) for each product.
🌐 **Verify!**
Consumers can then scan the QR code, landing on a verification page. The system does its thing, confirming the hash on the blockchain. What do you get? A tick on authenticity along with all the product specs. No more wondering if that Coke is legit!
🎉 **Hackathon Vibes and What We Learned**
Didn't get the top spot, but we had a blast! Crafting a prototype, playing with blockchain. Collaboration was key, and we left with a ton of new ideas and a hunger for more.
🙌 **Big Thanks**
Shoutout to African Bank and 22 ON SLOANE and partners for giving us the playground to innovate. This journey sparked some serious brainwaves.
Big Shout out to our team, we pushed through sleepless nights and multiple challenges but in the end we achieved what we set out to do.
💡 **Keep the Party Going**
As we reflect, we're stoked about how our solution could help SMMEs and keep those fake products at bay in South Africa. But there is definitely room for improvement.
Have a quick look at our demo below your insight would be much appreciated.

Last weekend was an exhilarating journey as I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the ETH Hackathon 2023 in the heart of London.
For three intense and thrilling days, I joined a diverse and passionate community of developers, designers, and innovators, all united by our shared love for blockchain and the potential it holds for the future. The event was nothing short of extraordinary, and I can't help but share some of the highlights and takeaways from this unforgettable experience.
One of the most striking aspects of the hackathon was the remarkable sense of collaboration. It was truly inspiring to work alongside brilliant minds from various backgrounds, each contributing their unique perspectives to the projects.
The energy at the event was palpable. We were all driven by a common goal - to create solutions that leverage blockchain technology for real-world problems. The diversity of projects ranged from decentralized finance and NFT applications to supply chain management and sustainability initiatives.
We had the privilege of being mentored by industry experts who generously shared their knowledge and insights. Their guidance was invaluable in refining our ideas and steering us in the right direction.
Late-night coding sessions, inspirational talks, and the sense of excitement in the air made this event unforgettable. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn, network, and grow as a blockchain enthusiast and developer.
I'm truly grateful for the experience and the relationships forged at the ETH Hackathon 2023. It reinforced my belief in the transformative power of blockchain technology and the potential for positive change in the world. I'm already looking forward to future hackathons and the chance to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation in the blockchain space.
A big shoutout to the Encode Club, sponsors, and all the incredible people I met along the way. Together, we're shaping the future, one block at a time!
