Our team has since expanded to include Torge, our Chief of Staff, and Fernanda, our visiting analyst, currently based in Luxembourg and Munich. Post-pandemic, we believed against the consensus that building a firm apart was possible—we just had to prove it. Remote work naturally sharpens our focus on priorities, which is crucial for any business but also comes with challenges. Here’s how we’ve approached remote work: 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: We utilise tools like Notion, Asana, Google Docs, Shared Google Calendars and Folk. We also streamline our financial operations by using our own portfolio company cleverlohn for payroll. 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: We hold daily check-ins—morning for strategic decisions and afternoons for operational priorities. If needed, we schedule dedicated calls for deeper discussions on strategic topics. Regular in-person meetings in different cities keep us connected without the overhead of a permanent office. 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀, 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁: Remote work demands trust as you cannot see what people are doing, which we build through clearly defined tasks, deadlines and roles. This clarity ensures that everyone is aligned. 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗞𝗣𝗜𝘀: Understanding what outcomes need to be achieved every quarter is key. Especially as we continue fundraising and deploying capital. 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Our culture is built on radical candor and transparency, ensuring everyone is working towards the same goals. Open discussions and quick feedback loops allow us to address issues openly. This environment encourages accountability and continuous improvement. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲: We meticulously discuss and document our processes via Loom recordings, google docs or notion so everyone understands how things are done. Regular iteration on these processes helps us stay disciplined and efficient. This is particularly important in a remote setup where discipline is key to consistency. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: We anticipate predictable workload:, such as attending events (booking travel/meetings) and LP updates, by planning and working ahead of time. This allows us to be proactive rather than reactive, a necessity in remote work where spontaneous problem-solving isn’t as easy. In 2024, family offices played a significant role in startup investments, with the top 10 family offices collectively making over 150 investments, focusing on sectors like biotech, energy, crypto, and artificial intelligence. CNBC, in partnership with FINTRX, analyzed these offices, revealing Maelstrom (Arthur Hayes' family office) as the most active, with 22 investments primarily in blockchain. Other top players include Motier Ventures, led by Guillaume Houzé, and Thiel Capital, led by Peter Thiel. AI emerged as a dominant investment theme, with 78% of family offices planning to invest in AI within the next 2-3 years. There's a big opportunity for proptech startups to disrupt incumbents by reconceptualizing the concept of ownership, financing, or property rights. I don't think there's as big of an opportunity around search, as data and search becomes increasingly commoditized. Incumbent businesses are built on solutions that have diminishing value, in a world where the concepts of property rights and ownership are fundamentally changing in the consumer's mind. Fifth Wall portfolio companies Pacaso and our latest announced investment in Fractional are both good examples of this reconceptualization. To that end, I'd like to again congratulate Stella Han, Carlos Alfredo Treviño Pérez, and the rest of the Fractional team on their $15 million Series A, led by Fifth Wall. #proptech #realestate

Real estate owners and operators have been bombarded with tech hype cycles in the last few years: "Do we have to care about the metaverse/web3/blockchain?" Can be exhausting to keep up with the flavors of the week. AI, on the other hand, is not another tech hype cycle to ignore. AI will save the real estate industry time and money by eliminating tedious, time-consuming tasks to free people up for more meaningful work. Beyond that low-hanging fruit, generative AI will transform the industry from pre-construction and design to operational efficiency. We've been getting a lot of questions about AI from our network at Fifth Wall and I spoke on a panel last week hosted by Citi, along with Sarah Liu and Tailorbird CEO Tim Cantwell.
