The Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection tops sales chart before it even has a release date

And wish lists too

There is some real excitement brewing over the recent announcement of the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, and that seems to be converting over into people actually going to buy the compilation upon release.

It's apparently even gotten to the point where the MvC Arcade Classics collection is already topping sales charts.

The physical edition of the original Marvel vs. Capcom titles is now up for pre-order on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch where its doing pretty darn well.

As of the time of reporting, Amazon is showing the MvC Fighting Collection as the number one selling game on PS4, which was pointed out to us by Xykes.

But it goes even farther than that.

Marvel is the number one most wished for game on PS4 as well as fifth for Nintendo Switch games.

And for video games in general sitting on people's wish lists the most, the Switch version of MvC is at 9th overall while the PS4 release was at 14th.

This was of course just specifically for the Amazon rankings in the United States, and while we did check a couple other major regions like the United Kingdom and Japan, Marvel wasn't there — though we also couldn't find official listings for the collections on their stores yet either.

We'd check what the Xbox rankings were like, but of course Capcom is skipping Microsoft's console entirely, which we previously looked into.

Topping a PS4-specific chart isn't the same massive accomplishment it would have been in like 2019 (and the rest of its competition here are basically all multiple years old), however, this does still go to show that people are really paying attention to this release.

Moreover, they want a physical version specifically, so they can never be taken away like the previous Marvel vs. Capcom HD releases were back on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

And this is just the initial pre-orders from the announcement when there's not a solid release date yet besides a generic 2024 window.

Having an arcade collection of fighting games that aren't out yet beating Elden Ring shortly after dropping the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is still certainly a win for MvC fans.

Of course, this excitement needs to continue and lead to a ton of sales for the collection for there to be a stronger chance of a new Marvel vs. Capcom entry in the future.

But hey, Deadpool is already talking about Marvel vs. Capcom 4, so that's something.

MvC has never performed as well as Resident Evil, Monster Hunter or even mainline Street Fighter games do, so hopefully Capcom has their expectations set accordingly.

The crossover franchise has reached 11 million sales total after all these years with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite having recently surpassed the original MvC3 with 2.2 million copies, and the developers are likely looking for that new collection to reach that platinum milestone too — which is a feat that the previous Capcom Fighting Collection has yet to do.

It's going to be very interesting to see how not just the FGC but general gaming community continues to approach and keep interest in the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection as we get closer to release.
