With every new generation comes a new set of starter Pokemon that make players pick a side. If you are a Water-type fan and picked Prinplup’s family back when the Sinnoh region debuted, here’s its best moveset for Pokemon Go and whether or not you should train it to fight in Niantic’s game.

Penguins might not look dangerous or tough at all, but the family consisting of Piplup, Prinplup, and Empoleon in Pokemon is no joke, and they have a few tricks under their fins.

This family first appeared with Gen 4’s Diamond & Pearl games and then made its way into Pokemon Go in 2018 when the Sinnoh region Pokedex was added to the mobile game.

Now, with the Sinnoh Tour around the corner and the Road to Sinnoh event taking place from February 19, 2024, until February 23, 2024, players will be able to find plenty of Prinplup in the wild and as 3-Star Raid Bosses as well.

Prinplup general stats in Pokemon Go

This Water-type Pokemon has an attack-based stat spread of 150 (ATK), 139 (DEF), and 162 (STAT), and can reach a max CP value of 1701 in Pokemon Go, which can be boosted by Snowy or Rainy weather.

As a pure Water-type is vulnerable to Grass and Electric-type moves, however, it is resistant to Steel, Fire, Water, and Ice-type attacks. Keep in mind that in its next stage -Empoleon- it acquires the Steel typing, which is a game changer.

Best moveset for Prinplup

The best moveset available for Prinplup in Pokemon Go consists of Bubble as a Fast Move and Hydro Pump as a Charged Move, with 9.39 damage per second and a solid 177.6 total damage output before it faints.

Even though Prinplup has a Steel-type Fast Move, it’s not recommended to use it as Prinplup doesn’t have the Steel-type yet. Plus, Metal Claw is not even a good attack after all. It’s better to stay with the full Water-type moves in order to fully exploit the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB).

Is Prinplup any good in Pokemon Go?

No, Prinplup does not excel at any league available in Pokemon Go, including the currently active Catch Cup: Little Edition league.

This is mainly because of its lack of damage and not having enough bulkiness. Additionally, Hydro Pump takes too much time to fully charge, which leaves the enemy enough time to put up a shield.

Unlike Monferno, neither Grotle nor Prinplup get their second typing until they reach their third evolution, which leaves them at a disadvantage compared to the monkey lookalike.
