Apple Vision Pro shipments rumor at launch

At $3,499, the Apple Vision Pro was already predicted to be a low-volume product, but one rumor provides an optimistic outlook of the premium mixed-reality headset. It states that at launch, the device is expected to ship 400,000 units, which is an impressive figure, given that it will initially only be available through an appointment system and sold in the U.S. Additionally, information states that the product will reach an astounding one million shipments next year, which seems farfetched, all things considered.

New rumor also states that the Apple Vision Pro costs $1,700 to make, with manufacturing included, resulting in its high $3,499 price tag

Analysis done by Jiemian has painted a rosy picture of the Apple Vision Pro, with the head-mounted wearable not only accumulating one million shipments in 2024 but garnering 10 million units just three years after its inception, which would be 2026. The report shared by Revegnus also mentions that the total cost of the components and manufacturing bill for the Apple Vision Pro mounts to $1,700, which would explain the ludicrous amount of $3,499 that U.S. consumers have to pay for one of these, and that is excluding prescription lenses and other add-ons.

The proportion of Chinese components present in the Apple Vision Pro is 60 percent, which is comparable to the iPhone 15 series, with Luxshare said to be the California giant’s exclusive assembling partner. Coming to the shipment estimates, all of these sound a little too optimistic, with even analyst Ming-Chi Kuo commenting that for an affordable version of the Apple Vision Pro to launch, the company will have to drastically reduce the current version's price. Even then, the successor is not expected to enter mass production until 2027.

It should also be noted that the low-cost option is reportedly launching sometime in 2025 and is said to compromise on the chip and display, with Apple apparently switching to an iPhone chip instead of a Mac-grade one and an inferior-quality panel. With the original Apple Vision Pro not yet launched, it is difficult to ascertain how well the current or future iterations will perform in the market. However, given that this is a new segment and the global economy is not exactly flourishing, the maturing of it may take several years.
