For the founders, who are BOLD ENOUGH TO START UP! Having some experience in this industry, I have learned that the real game changers aren’t those who duly fit into the mould; it is the misfits, rebels, and visionaries, who break the norm and redefine the industry. Some founders see things differently. Many times, they are misunderstood, and sometimes, they are just ignored. They dare to dream, they have the audacity to visualise a future that others cannot. Let us remember, that the most powerful startups in the world have been crafted by audacious unconventional founders, those who dare to think differently. As investors, our job is to spot their genius and supply the fuel to make their bold ideas realities. Let us raise a toast to “The crazy ones” who believe they can change the world, are the ones who actually do it. Many UK startup founders look to American pitch examples, like Airbnb's seed deck, as a guide for their presentations. However, this strategy won't necessarily work because UK and US investors have different approaches. When it comes to pitching your startup in the UK, it's important to remember that US and UK investors have different mindsets. UK investors are more risk-averse, while US investors have a more accepting attitude towards failure. This is reflected in the fact that only 8% of UK investors have worked at a startup, compared to 60% in the US. UK investors tend to focus on long-term strategy and forecasts, while US investors prioritize a founder's personality and problem-solving skills. UK investors also rely heavily on experienced sector experts and ex-founders as advisors because they lack first-hand knowledge of what makes a successful founder. As a founder, it's your job is to understand what UK investors are looking for and provide them with the information they need in a language they understand. This includes having a solid business plan, credible financial projections, and a pitch that demonstrates your ability to execute your idea and succeed in the long-term. So, the next time you're pitching to a UK investor, don't copy a US pitch. Instead, speak their language and focus on tailoring your pitch to UK investors and showing them why your startup is a smart investment choice. By doing so, you can increase your chances of success and secure the funding you need to take your startup to the next level.
