In 2018, Abhinav Chandrachud published a book titled Supreme Whispers.  The subtitle, ‘Conversations with Judges of the Supreme Court of India, 1980-89’, explains the book’s contents.  George Gadbois (1936-2017) was professor of political science, University of Kentucky.  He wrote extensively on SC judges. Gadbois should be read much more.

For instance, in 1969 (Law and Society Review), he penned a portrait, perhaps dated now, of the typical SC Judge. In 1970 (EPW), there was a study of the behavioural patterns of SC judges.  In that remarkable and quantitative essay, despite unanimity in many judgments, based on individual values, attitudes and decisions, he classified SC judges into four groups – modern liberal, modern conservative, classical liberal and classical conservative.
