I try to breakdown my reviews into sections to help readers easily understand my ramblings….. My needs: I do a lot of traveling through out the year and needed an Apple Lightning/HDMI AV Adapter so I can watch TV & movies from my phone & tablet - to a television. Quality/Function - IMO: I’ve had this awesome little device for about 3 days now and so far almost EVERYTHING WORKS. The picture is great, zero lagging, zero noise distortion and the device doesn’t get crazy hot like the cheap imitation AV adapters. As of 4/9/2023 I’ve tested: Hulu, Netflix, Tubi, HBO Max, Shudder, MGM, Disney +, YouTube, CinemaHD, Paramount +, Pluto, Plex, Philo, Peacock, Starz, Nickelodeon, Discovery + and Crunchyroll - all of these apps work from my Iphone and Ipad to several different TV’s throughout the house. ~ The only 2 apps that gave me problems are: - (IMDB’s) Freevee App: Did not work at all, it would continually give a message that “Watching videos on external devices isn’t available for free episodes”. Idk why Freevee, of all the apps, would not work was beyond me…. - Amazon Prime App: Gave me a message twice that “The function your trying to use is not supported”. But I got it to work 2 ways: 1) Was by running the Amazon app through the Apple TV app. 2) By just repeated attempts at playing a movie/tv show. Also, if Netflix ever gives you a problem while watching it - just completely log out of Netflix, then log back in and go back to the program you were just watching, everything should work correctly. S&H: Amazon had to package to my door in a couple days time. Everything was packaged well. Finally: I’ve tried several of the cheap Lightning/HDMI AV Adapter copies from DHGate, Alibaba & Temu - THEY ARE ALL STRAIGHT JUNK ! ! They might work correctly for a couple days - if your lucky. Years ago any cheap adapter would work but now days Apple has perfected their “Certified Product” lockout system - if the manufacturer of said product doesn’t pay Apple for the proper licensing agreements - Apple will not let that product work on their devices. Because Apple does this you must always make sure whatever product you purchase to use with their devices has the “Apple MFi Certified” requirement.
Works great and it allows you to watch anything from your iPhone on any TV that has a HDMI port! Some people on here say it doesn’t for some reason let you watch streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, or just any app that streams any video content) but it’s just simply not true! On any TV that has an HDMI port, which it’s insanely rare that you will even own or use a TV that does not have an HDMI port, you will 100% be able to watch anything on TV with this device that you can watch on your iPhone.
I even watch DIRECTV through my DIRECTV app on any TV. It’s a must have especially in a place where there is not a internet connection like in rural areas or just any place with no internet.
It just all depends on the type of service you get though if there is no internet connection. But, it all boils down to if you can watch it on your iPhone then you can watch it on a tv with this device. It just simply mirrors whatever is showing up on your iPhone screen. So, as soon as you plug it into your iPhone and then plug it into the TV you will immediately see whatever your screen on your iPhone is displaying!
I take this with me every time I travel just Incase the hotel, vacation home, lakehouse, or anywhere that might not have internet, good Wi-Fi signal, or just Incase the place I’m at happens to loose internet service for a while or something? Just remember to invest in a lengthy hdmi cord so you can use it while you are in bed or sitting on the couch.
If you do not want to buy a lengthy HDMI cord and you have two at your house then you can always buy an hdmi extension adapter to make two smaller hdmi cords just one longer hdmi cord to help reach wherever you are at. Buy, I highly recommend buying both (lengthy hdmi cord and extension adapter) so in case you go on a trip and the cord isn’t quit long enough you can just add another one from the place you are at, that is if they have another one?
I bought a 15’, 20’, and even a 25’ hdmi cord and I have to say the 25’ cord is the one use the most because it’s never not long enough and I always can use the device while I’m in bed or wherever very comfortably.
Lastly, since it has a charging port on it which is the best part I might add due to the battery consumption that streaming videos takes up on a phone. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT to buy a iPhone chargrging cord (usb to lightning cord) that is much longer than the standard iPhone charging cord. If you want to use the long hdmi cord to use it while in bed or on the couch and you don’t have it charging then it’s pointless to even use the long hdmi cord or even the device itself. You don’t want to be using this and then go out and your phone is almost dead or if you want to use the device to watch something on the tv and your phone is almost dead. My point is you never know where the outlets are going to be in a place you have never been and you are wanting to have it on the nightstand or just close to you so you don’t have to get up and go hit pause, play, or switch to something else to watch.
I hope this was thorough enough and helps answer any questions some of you might have. But, I promise this plays any streaming app your tv so please do not listen to anyone saying that it doesn’t because they are for some reason lying or they just have no idea what they are talking about?!
Research what this adapter will and will NOT do before purchasing. It does an excellent job of what it is designed for.
I intended to connect this between my DJI Mini 2 controller and my iPhone 12 mini and use the HDMI out to connect to a pair of video goggles. However, this adapter’s Lightning (Apple Phone) connector does NOT pass through the OTG (On The Go) information from the DJI controller to the phone. The Lightning connector on this adaptor appears to be for charging only.
Also, unrelated to my drone setup, the adapter’s HDMI out will NOT work with encrypted video, such as paid services like Amazon Prime, etc.
What DOES work: The HDMI output will successfully mirror the iPhone screen when viewing videos, pictures, and documents. I was able to view “free to view” YouTube videos (this might be different if you have YouTube’s paid service…I do NOT and am unable to verify). I subscribe to Formula 1 (F1 TV Pro), and it DID work!
For those interested in connecting your DJI Mini 2 to HDMI video goggles, what ultimately worked for me was mirroring my screen wirelessly to my Roku 4K streaming stick. First, I power the Roku with a power bank battery. Then, I connect it to the phone using the Hotspot feature. Next, I use screen mirroring and select Roku. Next, I connected the Roku's HDMI output to the goggles (I bought VISIONHMD Bigeyes H3). The connection has a lag now and again, so it's not ideal for fast FPV flying, but it is absolutely GREAT for in bright sunlight, where it would normally be difficult to see the screen.
Used to connect an iPhone with an iPad to a television with the HDMI in a motor home. Performed as it should. Did keep my phone charge level consistent while using. Cables stayed connected tightly. A very portable device.
I was looking for this adapter for a long time. Dish was charging me through the nose for their service and I just had to cut back on hemorrhaging money so I gave this adapter a try. I cut off my Dish service and saved a bundle by using this adapter. I got a good deal from ATT on DirectvNow and I use this adapter to mirror my phone to our 65" Samsung TV. I also have a Netflix account and mirror that on to the TV. And of course my Amazon Prive videos also mirror perfectly on the TV. I did some research and found a website of apple geeks that published an article on this adapter. they took one apart and tested the components. This little adapter has an actual micro chip much like a CPU inside which takes the output from the phone and sends it as HDMI to a TV or other screen with an HDMI input. According to the article there is software in the chip which essentially makes the transition from the iPhone output to HDMI. It also sends the audio. Because of that you should take care not to make a mistake and plug it somewhere where it will get zapped by an electric current. If you burn out the micro chip you can render the device worthless. I would protect it from a strong magnetic field also just in case. I have noticed that when first plugged in the video quality is very poor but slowly gets up to HDMI. I don't know what causes this but it doesn't bother me at all. I just keep watching and the picture gets sharp within a couple of minutes. I bought this adapter four months ago and it still works flawlessly. Once in a while it takes the iPhone a while to recognize the adapter which is kind of frustrating since all you get is a black screen. I found that it works best if plugged into the phone before you go from locked to unlock. It seems to recognize the adapter better. The adapter is recognized as an iPhone accessory and it is controlled through the screen mirroring app in the iPhone. You swipe from the bottom of the screen up and the screen mirroring controller will appear with the other available control for the iPhone. There have been times when the connection is lost and I have to play with the adapter and iPhone to get the connection going again. I'm not sure whether it is the adapter or the phone doing that. All in all I love this adapter and hope it lasts a long time. I am getting one for my wife also since she keeps stealing mine and we watch different programs. I would definitely recommend this adapter to anyone looking to watch Netflix, DirectvNow, amazon and youtube from their iPhone on a TV or monitor. It has worked great for me. And it is a genuine Apple accessory. That's why it works when the knock offs don't.
